Welcome to the Martial Arts Guy
I like so many others fell in love with Martial Arts from a young age. I have since trod the well worn path of training, competing and teaching part time before finally reaching what a lot of people see as one of the ultimate aims, opening and running my own full time martial arts centre. My centre has just reached its third birthday. In this time I have seen my fair share of ups and downs, which I hope I have learnt from.
Setting up the Martial Arts Guy is my way of helping other martial artists. I will put on here all the teaching knowledge and ability that I have acquired over the years and where appropriate, include (with their permission of course) insights provided by leading figures from within the world of Martial Arts. Some of my methods and techniques, you may not agree with or may not wish to use. That is ok, I do not use all that I have been taught. However, I hope you glean something that you can take away and utilise in your own training or teaching. Why am I doing this? Well, I am something of an avid collector of knowledge. Be it from books, DVD's, other instructors etc. I am a traditionalist in that I always work from the basic fundamentals of any given technique, range or art form before progressing to more advanced applications and tactics. I also work from written curriculums within the art forms that I personally teach and I always seek to imbue education of the mind alongside conditioning of the body. Training methods and ideas however do change and everyone has a different perception. This is what keeps Martial Arts alive. The constant evolution of techniques and training, striving towards making them more effective is not only a worthwhile goal, it is one of the things that will keep a martial artist motivated long after the light burnt bright through competition has dimmed. I am certainly no master and would never deem to be, I simply try to offer on some of the education that I have been lucky enough to receive from martial artists who have had an impact on my life through their teachings. We all stand on the shoulders of giants and Martial Arts has survived over the years from its passing down from one generation to the next. I merely want to play my part.
I sincerely hope you enjoy this site, please feel free to comment as often as you like and leave or send me via e-mail any information/training methods you feel would be of benefit to any other martial artist.
Yours in Martial Arts
Stuart Tomlinson
